If you need to place the AE400 decoder at a remote location – for example, at a communications room with limited access – you need two N2-100 (serial-Ethernet converters) to make the connection.
One NI-200 will send the AE400 alert text stream to a remote computer on the network for input into the FipsSender software. The serial data comes from the LED sign-port on the AE400 and goes into the DB9 connection on the NI-200. Jumpers are provided in the NI-100 to handle null modem (reverse of transmit and receive line) issues. The serial data is converted to Ethernet data packets by the iServer in the tunneling configuration.
Position the second NI-200 near the remote computer and the process is reversed. The data packets are converted back to serial data by the iServer and are output on the DB9 for input into the serial port of the local PC.
We have provided data status lights to simplify serial data troubleshooting at each stage.
